BiteMatch

Privacy Policy

Effective July 31, 2026

BiteMatch LLC (“BiteMatch,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides the BiteMatch mobile application, the bitematch.io website, waitlist, and related services (collectively, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use the Services.

This Policy is intended for users in the United States. If you do not agree with this Policy, do not use the Services. Our Terms of Use separately govern your use of the Services.

Privacy at a glance

  • BiteMatch uses account, profile, preference, location, restaurant-interaction, group, subscription, advertising, and technical information to provide and improve restaurant discovery and social features.
  • BiteMatch requests location only when needed for location-based features and with your device permission. BiteMatch does not request continuous background location.
  • Information you choose to place on your profile may be visible to other users. Group activity and messages are visible to the applicable group members.
  • BiteMatch does not sell personal information. Advertising and measurement practices are described in the “Advertising and privacy choices” section below.
  • You can manage available privacy and notification settings in the app and request account deletion from the Profile or Settings area.

Information we collect

Information you provide

We may collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Account information, such as your email address and information received when you use a third-party sign-in option. If a phone-based verification feature is available and you choose to use it, we may also process your phone number.
  • Profile information, such as your display name, username, profile photo, date of birth, home city or selected search area.
  • Preferences, such as cuisine and food preferences, dietary restrictions, location choices, meetup preferences, and notification or privacy settings.
  • Social Meetups profile and matching preferences, if you use Social Meetups, such as your gender, sexual orientation, and the age range and gender of people you would like to be matched with.
  • Activity and content, such as restaurant likes, passes, favorites, votes, matches, group names, invitations, messages, restaurant suggestions, ratings, reviews, menu information, photos, reports, and feedback.
  • Communications, such as messages and information you provide when you contact support, respond to a survey, report a user or content, or otherwise communicate with us.
  • Waitlist, referral, and business information, such as your email address, ZIP code, city or state, referral information, restaurant or business name, and information submitted through a waitlist or business-interest form.

BiteMatch does not receive the password for an account you use through a third-party sign-in option.

Dietary restrictions, gender, sexual orientation, or other content you choose to provide may reveal information that some laws treat as sensitive. We use your gender, sexual orientation, and age-range preferences only for meetup matching and compatibility; this information is never used for advertising. Please provide only information you are comfortable sharing with BiteMatch and, where applicable, other users.

Location information

With your permission, BiteMatch may collect precise or approximate location from your device while you use location-based features. We use location to identify your search area, show nearby restaurants, calculate distance, support group or meetup location choices, and improve local results. BiteMatch stores the most recent device location and selected search area with your account to power nearby results, resolve your local market, and identify local trends.

We may also receive a location you enter or select manually and general location derived from your IP address. You can deny or revoke location access in your device settings. Some nearby-search features may then be limited, but a manual location option may be available. BiteMatch does not request continuous background location.

Restaurant discovery, group, and social activity

We collect information about how you use discovery and social features, including searches, filters, selected search areas, restaurant likes and passes, favorites, group swipes, votes, matches, invitations, membership, friend activity, blocks, reports, messages, and related dates and times.

We may use this activity to personalize results, identify trends, calculate group matches, recommend restaurants, prevent abuse, and improve the Services. Depending on the feature and your settings, group members or other users may be able to see your profile information and activity within that group or feature.

Subscription and transaction information

If you purchase BiteMatch Pro, a third-party marketplace or payment provider processes your payment. BiteMatch and its subscription service providers receive information needed to manage your subscription, such as the product purchased, purchase and renewal status, cancellation or expiration status, entitlement, transaction identifiers, and support or fraud-prevention records. BiteMatch does not receive or store your full payment-card number.

Advertising and consent information

Free-tier users may see ads. When ads are enabled, advertising and consent providers may process information such as device and advertising identifiers, IP address, general location, app interactions, ad impressions, clicks, diagnostics, and privacy choices, depending on your location, device settings, and permissions.

Technical and usage information

We and our service providers may automatically collect information about your device and use of the Services, such as IP address, device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone, network information, feature usage, request dates and times, error and diagnostic logs, security events, and information used to detect fraud or abuse.

Sources of information

We collect information:

  • directly from you;
  • automatically from your device and use of the Services;
  • from third-party sign-in, payment, distribution, and other providers you use to access or interact with the Services;
  • from other BiteMatch users, such as when someone invites you to a group, sends a friend request, or reports an interaction; and
  • from restaurants, business representatives, content licensors, and restaurant-data providers.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • provide, operate, maintain, personalize, and improve the Services;
  • create, authenticate, secure, support, and delete accounts;
  • provide restaurant discovery, favorites, group matching, messaging, referral, notification, and meetup features;
  • show nearby results and calculate distance;
  • process subscription entitlements, purchases, restorations, and support requests;
  • display and measure ads, manage consent, and suppress ads for eligible Pro users;
  • communicate with you about authentication, security, support, waitlists, purchases, and important service updates;
  • detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and violations of our Terms;
  • moderate content and protect BiteMatch, our users, restaurants, and the public;
  • analyze performance, fix errors, test features, and improve reliability and accessibility;
  • comply with law, legal process, and valid government requests; and
  • establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and evaluate or complete a business transaction.

We may also use information for another purpose disclosed when it is collected or with your consent. We do not use precise location, private messages, or dietary-restriction, gender, or sexual-orientation information for unrelated advertising or to make legally significant decisions about you.

How we disclose information

We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances.

Service providers

We share information with vendors and service providers that help us run the Services, including providers of:

  • hosting and databases;
  • authentication;
  • mapping, geocoding, and restaurant data;
  • advertising and consent management;
  • subscription management and app-store payments;
  • email and push-notification delivery;
  • customer support; and
  • security.

These providers are authorized to process information only on our behalf and under contractual obligations designed to protect your data.

The Services use Google Maps and Google Places features and content. Google’s collection and use of data is described in Google’s Privacy Policy.

We require service providers that process personal information on our behalf to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security protections consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

Other users and groups

Other signed-in users may see profile information you choose to share, such as your display name, username, and profile photo. Group members may see membership, invitations, votes or voting status, matches, messages, and other activity needed for group features. Friends or meetup participants may see information needed for those features. Content you post publicly or to a group is available to that audience.

Users who already know your email address can use it to find your account and send you a friend request. BiteMatch never displays your email address to other users, and your account email address, precise location, and private account settings are not part of your public profile.

Restaurants and third-party services

Restaurant names, locations, hours, menus, photos, ratings, reviews, and related information may come from restaurants, licensors, data providers, or other third parties. When you open a third-party link or interact with a restaurant or third-party service, that party’s terms and privacy policy apply.

Legal, safety, and enforcement

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law or legal process; enforce our agreements; investigate fraud, abuse, or security issues; protect the rights, safety, or property of BiteMatch, our users, restaurants, or others; or respond to an emergency.

Business transfers

We may transfer information in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of BiteMatch, subject to this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

With your direction or consent

We may disclose information when you ask us to, such as when you join a group, send content to another user, share an invitation or referral link, or authorize a connection.

User content and visibility

Content you submit may be visible to other users depending on the feature, audience, and settings you select. Other users may save or share content they can view. Do not include confidential or sensitive information in a public profile, group name, message, review, or other content unless it is necessary and you are comfortable sharing it with the intended audience.

Restaurant and food information displayed in BiteMatch may be owned by the applicable restaurant, reviewer, photographer, data provider, or other rights holder. BiteMatch uses that information under applicable licenses and provider terms. Our Terms of Use govern content submitted directly to BiteMatch by users, restaurants, and partners.

Advertising and privacy choices

BiteMatch does not sell personal information. Free-tier users may see contextual or personalized ads provided through an advertising provider. Pro users are intended not to receive BiteMatch in-app ads while their subscription entitlement is active.

When ads are served, Google may collect and use device and ad-interaction data as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Depending on applicable law, the disclosure of limited device, network, and activity information to advertising or measurement providers may be treated as “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising. Where required, BiteMatch will provide notice, consent prompts, and a way to opt out or change your choice. You may also be able to limit personalized advertising through your device settings.

Changing an advertising choice may not remove ads; it may cause the ads you see to be less personalized. BiteMatch does not knowingly use or disclose the personal information of users under 18 for targeted advertising.

Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain security and business records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and honor your choices. Retention periods vary based on the type of information and why it is needed.

When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify personal information associated with it, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention, transaction, backup, dispute, and recordkeeping requirements. Content shared with other users may remain in their copies or in de-identified form when necessary to preserve conversations, group results, safety, or the rights of others. Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained where permitted by law.

Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove information from backups. Backup copies are isolated from ordinary use and overwritten under standard schedules.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These measures may include access controls, authentication, encryption in transit, restricted database and storage rules, monitoring, and secret management. We also store one-way hashed versions of identifiers such as email addresses and phone numbers for account lookup, deduplication, rate limiting, and abuse prevention. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for protecting your device, email account, sign-in credentials, and invitation links. Contact support@bitematch.io if you believe your account or information has been compromised.

Your rights and choices

Account, profile, and device controls

You may review or update available profile, preference, notification, privacy, and location settings in the app. You can control location, camera, photo-library, and notification permissions through your device settings. Revoking a permission stops future access through that permission but does not automatically delete information previously provided.

Communications

You may unsubscribe from promotional emails using the link in the email. We may still send transactional messages needed for authentication, security, purchases, account changes, or services you request.

Privacy rights

Depending on where you live and whether applicable law applies to BiteMatch, you may have the right to:

  • confirm whether we process your personal information;
  • access or obtain a portable copy of personal information;
  • correct inaccurate personal information;
  • delete personal information;
  • opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling;
  • limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information;
  • withdraw consent where processing depends on consent;
  • appeal a denial of a privacy request; and
  • receive equal service and not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.

To submit a request or appeal, email support@bitematch.io with the subject “Privacy Request” or “Privacy Appeal.” Include your account email address and describe your request. We may verify your identity or authority. Rights are subject to legal exceptions, and we will respond within the time required by law.

Account deletion

You can initiate account deletion from the Profile or Settings area of the app. Deletion information and a way to request deletion outside the app are also available at bitematch.io/delete-account. If you cannot access the app, email support@bitematch.io from the address associated with your account. We may require reasonable verification to prevent unauthorized deletion.

Deleting your BiteMatch account does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through a third-party marketplace. Cancel an active subscription through the applicable marketplace. Deleting BiteMatch also does not delete an account you use through a third-party sign-in option.

Age requirements

BiteMatch is intended only for adults age 18 or older. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account or use the Services. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will take reasonable steps to delete the information and terminate the account.

A parent or legal guardian who believes that someone under 18 has provided personal information to BiteMatch may contact us at support@bitematch.io.

Third-party links and services

The Services may link to restaurant websites, maps, app stores, social-sharing tools, reservation providers, or other third parties. BiteMatch does not control those parties’ privacy practices. Review their terms and privacy policies before providing information or completing a transaction.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the Services, law, or our practices. We will post the updated Policy with a revised effective date. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide additional notice as required, such as an in-app notice or email, and obtain consent when required by law.
